A1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
  • Ignition ON.
  • Verify there is an observable symptom present.

Is an observable symptom present?
Yes GO to A2
No The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

A2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.

Did the GSM module pass the network test?
Yes GO to A3
No

A3 PERFORM GSM (GEAR SHIFT MODULE) CONTROL MODULE SELF-TEST
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a GSM control module self-test.

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes
REFER to: External Controls (307-05A Automatic Transmission External Controls - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission – 10R60, Diagnosis and Testing).
No GO to A4

A4 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the GWM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes
REFER to: Communications Network (418-00 Module Communications Network, Diagnosis and Testing).
No GO to A5

A5 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM self-test.

Are any non-network Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present?
Yes REFER to PCM DTC Chart in this section.
No GO to A6

A6 RECHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the PMI, or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Repeat the PCM self-test.

Is DTC U0103 still present?
Yes GO to A7
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

A7 CHECK FOR OTHER CAUSES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK CONCERN

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • CHECK the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the GSM, GWM or PCM. If recent service history is found:
    • verify correct replacement module was installed
      • HVBOM may be used to verify correct part fitment
    • verify the configuration of replacement module was correct
      • re-configure module using as-built data if prior configuration is suspect
    • verify the module was not obtained from a like vehicle and installed into customer vehicle
      • return the swapped module to source vehicle and obtain new replacement module
  • Operate the system and determine if the observable symptom is still present.

Is the observable symptom still present?
Yes GO to A8
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been due to incorrect parts replacement procedures or incorrect module configuration.

A8 CHECK FOR CORRECT GSM (GEAR SHIFT MODULE) MODULE OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the GSM connector(s).
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the GSM connector(s). Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB, GSB, SSM or FSA. If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new GSM.
REFER to: Gear Shift Module (GSM) (307-05A Automatic Transmission External Controls - 10-Speed Automatic Transmission – 10R60, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a ABS control module self-test.

No GO to B4

Yes

M2 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL
  • Start the engine.
  • Allow the engine to run at idle until the engine temperature is warm or hot.
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Check the engine oil level.

Is the engine oil level low?
Yes FILL the engine oil to the appropriate level. Low engine oil level can cause a low engine oil pressure warning indicator to illuminate and a DTC will set. CHECK the system for normal operation.
No GO to M3

M3 MONITOR THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION) WITH THE ENGINE OFF
  • Ignition OFF.
    • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • KOEO
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, view PCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Access the  PCM  and monitor the  EOP_PRESS (kPa)  PID

  • Wait approximately 30 seconds.

Does the engine oil pressure read approximately 0 - 30 kPa?
Yes GO to M4
No VISUALLY CHECK the wiring harness and electrical connector for signs of damage. REPAIR as necessary. If there on no signs of damage, INSTALL a new engine oil pressure sensor.
REFER to: Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Sensor (303-14A Electronic Engine Controls - 2.3L EcoBoost (201kW/273PS), Removal and Installation).

M4 CHECK THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE AT IDLE
  • Start the engine.
  • Run the engine at idle for 2 minutes.
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, view PCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
  • Access the  PCM  and monitor the  ECT (Deg C)  PID

    and monitor the ECT PID until the engine coolant temperature is equal or greater than 157.9 °F ( 70 °C).
  • Access the  PCM  and monitor the  EOP_PRESS (kPa)  PID


Is the PID equal or greater than 60 kPa?
Yes GO to M6
No GO to M5

M5 CARRY OUT THE VARIABLE OIL PRESSURE ACTUATOR UNBLOCK SEQUENCE AND RECHECK THE OIL PRESSURE
  • Access the  PCM  and control the  EOPDC_CMD (% Duty Cycle)  PID

  • Command the PID from MIN to MAX. Wait 15 seconds. Repeat this step 3 times waiting 15 seconds between between steps.
  • Access the  PCM  and monitor the  EOP_PRESS (kPa)  PID


Is the EOP_PRESS PID display equal or greater than 60 kPa?
Yes GO to M6
No CHECK the oil pressure using a mechanical gauge.
REFER to: Engine (303-00 Engine System - General Information, Diagnosis and Testing).

M6 COMMAND THE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE DUTY CYCLE PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)
  • Access the  PCM  and control the  RPM_DSD (Rpm)  PID

  • Set the desired engine speed to 1800 RPM.
  • Access the  PCM  and control the  EOPDC_CMD (% Duty Cycle)  PID

  • Set the PID to 20% and wait 10 seconds.
  • Access the  PCM  and monitor the  EOP_PRESS (kPa)  PID


Is the EOP greater than 170 kPa?
Yes GO to M8
No GO to M7

M7 CARRY OUT THE VARIABLE OIL PRESSURE ACTUATOR UNBLOCK SEQUENCE AND RECHECK THE OIL PRESSURE
  • Access the  PCM  and control the  EOPDC_CMD (% Duty Cycle)  PID

  • Command the PID from MIN to MAX. Wait 15 seconds. Repeat this step 3 times waiting 15 seconds between between steps.
  • Access the  PCM  and monitor the  EOP_PRESS (kPa)  PID


Is the EOP_PRESS PID display equal or greater than 60 kPa?
Yes GO to M8
No CHECK the oil pressure using a mechanical gauge.

M8 CLEAR AND CHECK THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all history PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)
  • Ignition ON.
    • Wait 20 seconds.
  • Start the engine and run at idle for 30 seconds.
  • Hold the accelerator WOT for 30 seconds.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve all PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Are there any PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present?
Yes CHECK the oil pressure using a mechanical gauge.
REFER to: Engine (303-00 Engine System - General Information, Diagnosis and Testing).
No The oil pressure concern is not present. The concern may have been resolved by carrying out the unblock sequence.

PINPOINT TEST N : P06DA, P06DB, P06DC

Yes GO to N4
No A circuit fault is not currently active. CLEAR any history diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), drive the vehicle and RECHECK for PCM diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

N4 CHECK THE OIL PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID SUPPLY VOLTAGE
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect Oil pressure control solenoid C1748 .
  • Ignition ON.
  • Measure:

  • Disconnect Engine oil pressure control solenoid C1748 .
  • Disconnect PCM connectors.
  • Inspect connectors and wiring:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect all connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit or connector as needed.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by loose module or solenoid connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
